Hurghada flight for the autumn half-term: the price jumped 91% overnight

The same route, the same dates, tracked daily for over two months - then one day when the price nearly doubled.

Market & season

As of 29 Aug 2026, a direct round-trip fare for a family (2 adults + 2 children) from our home airport cluster (Prague, Vienna, Ostrava, Katowice, Krakow, Bratislava, Wroclaw) to Hurghada for 24-31 Oct 2026 - the week that overlaps the Czech autumn half-term break - costs 112,426 CZK. As recently as 18 Aug 2026, the same route-and-date combination cost 44,954 CZK: the price jumped 90.6% in a single day and has stayed above 84,600 CZK for eleven straight scans since.

Two calm months, then a jump

We've tracked this exact date (24-31 Oct 2026, direct flights only, family 2+2) daily since 25 Jun 2026. Across 51 scans between 25 Jun and 18 Aug 2026 the price stayed in a tight 40,478-49,771 CZK band, median 43,479 CZK - the all-time low, 40,478 CZK, landed on 3 Jul 2026. That changed on 19 Aug 2026: the price jumped to 85,696 CZK and has held above 84,600 CZK ever since, sitting as of 29 Aug 2026 at the highest point the whole tracked series has shown so far.

All-time low (3 Jul 2026)40,478 CZK

29 Aug 2026 (today, series ceiling so far)112,426 CZK

What's behind the jump

Our history also records which airport the cheapest fare flew from, and that's where the mechanism shows. Through 18 Aug 2026 the winning airport in this comparison was Ostrava (44,954 CZK); on 19 Aug 2026 the cheapest remaining fare suddenly flew from Prague at 85,696 CZK - the cheaper regional airports simply dropped out of the comparison for this one week. Neighbouring weeks still have theirs: as of 29 Aug 2026 the 17-24 Oct week was led by Vienna at 44,910 CZK, and the 31 Oct-7 Nov week by Katowice at 14,975 CZK, cheaper still. Only the one week in between disappeared from the cheap end - the exact week that, per the 2026/2027 school-year schedule (MŠMT), holds the Czech autumn half-term break, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 Oct 2026.

What to do with it

The price now sits at the ceiling of its own history, not the floor - a different situation from what we described for Hurghada in early August, but with the same conclusion: the verdict stays 🟡 WAIT, never 🚨 on unverified or short-lived numbers. Anyone locked into the half-term week doesn't have much choice right now; anyone who can shift dates can see from the neighbouring weeks that the gap runs into tens of thousands of CZK. How we turn price and history into a verdict for a specific profile is on How Voyscout works; the methodology behind the flight series itself is in How we track flight prices.
